ERA

English Racing Automobiles was founded in 1933 at Bourne with a single purpose: to give Britain a competitive voiturette racer, and its supercharged R-types did exactly that, taking on and frequently beating the continental factories through the late 1930s. Only around seventeen were built, most surviving with continuous racing histories and pet names — 'Remus' and 'Romulus' campaigned by Prince Bira remain the most famous. ERAs are the backbone of pre-war historic racing to this day, appearing at Goodwood and the VSCC's great meetings in the hands of owners who use them exactly as intended.
