Monteverdi

Peter Monteverdi, Switzerland's only serious postwar carmaker, built grand tourers in Basel for clients who found Ferrari too obvious: the High Speed 375 series paired Chrysler V8 power with Frua and Fissore coachwork of considerable swagger, and the mid-engined Hai 450 promised hypercar performance years before the term existed — though only a handful were built. Production faded in the 1980s and the marque died with its founder, but Monteverdis are prized today precisely for their rarity and their outsider glamour — Swiss precision wrapped around American muscle.
