The restoration shop came first and the auction house grew out of it: Rob Myers was restoring cars in Chatham from 1976, incorporated in 1979, and formed RM Auctions in 1991 — which became RM Sotheby's after the 2015 partnership. The shop remains in Blenheim, staffed largely by local craftsmen. At the 2025 Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance, Best of Show went to the 1924 Hispano-Suiza H6C Nieuport-Astra Tulipwood Torpedo, restored here over more than 12,000 hours across nearly two years, including recreating the torpedo fenders lost to history — the company's ninth Best of Show by its own count, and its third in four years, following the 1937 Mercedes-Benz 540K Spezial Roadster in 2023 and the 1932 Duesenberg Model J Figoni Sport Torpedo in 2022. RM Sotheby's, the auction house, is part of the same group — the one directory entry where restorer and major auction house share an organisation.
