A coachbuilding house rather than a general restorer, and one of the most consequential names in British classic car work despite being little known outside the trade. Bob Smith began in 1964 and built a global reputation in aluminium bodywork for Jaguar, Aston Martin and Ferrari; his son James works alongside him. The team of time-served craftsmen works from original blueprints and, in some cases, the actual presses used at the factory. The Jaguar credentials are exceptional: bodies for the C-type, D-type, XKSS and Lightweight E-type, plus ash frames and complete bodies for the XK120. RS Panels work appears in RM Sotheby's catalogue descriptions, and the shop has re-bodied a Rolls-Royce Phantom VI.
