Kimera Evo38

The Group B what-if — 037 looks, Integrale 4WD, and a bespoke twin-charged four.

Car Collector International Editorial
Deep-blue Kimera Evo38 in a studio setting, front three-quarter view showing quad LED-halo headlamps, aggressive front splitter and bumper venting, wide-body arches with gold multi-spoke wheels wearing Pirelli P Zero tyres, and Group B-era louvred bonnet — the 4WD 'what-if' evolution of the Evo37.
Overview

Why this car matters

The Kimera Evo38 is the 4WD evolution of the Evo37, unveiled in 2024. Named for 'SE038' — the internal codename for the Lancia Delta S4 — it is the deliberate 'what-if' the 037 had continued into the four-wheel-drive Group B era.

The Evo38 shares the Evo37's donor cell and carbon body silhouette but adds a wider track, full 4WD, a revised twin-charged 2.2-litre four-cylinder producing approximately 600 hp, a six-speed manual and a dedicated drift-brake system. Kerb weight is approximately 1,100 kg. Kimera produced 38 units at approximately £918,000 UK inc. VAT (approximately €880,000 net), all sold at launch.

The Evo38 is a bigger conceptual change than a facelift — the same silhouette recast as a 4WD Group B homage. Alongside the Evo37 it completes Kimera's Lancia rally-era diptych: the RWD 037 tribute and the 4WD Delta S4 'what-if' as a matched pair. Small run, all sold at launch, and a distinct mechanical proposition rather than a badge exercise.

Buyer's Guide

What to look for

Provenance — commission file and factory documentation

The single most important document on any low-volume restomod is the factory commission file. Confirm the build book, colour and trim specification, delivery documents and any numbered plaque before pricing the car against comparables. For the Evo38 specifically, confirm this is the 4WD wide-body car (not the RWD Evo37), verify the factory commission file for drift-brake specification, drivetrain calibration and any bespoke Fuoriserie-style options against Kimera Automobili build records.

Donor-car chassis and body integrity

Restomods on a donor cell (Lancia Beta Montecarlo for the Kimera family) inherit the strengths and weaknesses of the original chassis. Inspect for corrosion in the original structure, evidence of prior accident repair and integrity of the composite outer body. A lift inspection with paint-depth gauge is non-negotiable.

Twin-charged four-cylinder drivetrain

The bespoke twin-charged (supercharger + turbo) inline-four is the car's mechanical centrepiece. Verify cold-start behaviour, boost signature under load, evidence of correct calibration, and service history against the factory portal. Any deviation from factory specification should be identified and priced accordingly.

Gearbox, driveline and suspension

Six-speed manual gearboxes and (on 4WD cars) drift-brake systems are bespoke assemblies. Test through all gears, verify driveline shunt under trailing throttle, and confirm suspension geometry and bushing condition on a lift.

Factory relationship

Low-volume restomods carry their value in the factory relationship. Confirm the factory build book, commission file and any specific configuration paperwork before purchase; parts and drivetrain support are effectively factory-only.

Bespoke drivetrain

Twin-charged (supercharger + turbo) and high-boost four-cylinder drivetrains require specialist service knowledge. Any work outside the factory network should be reconciled against the factory service portal.

Investment

Long-term outlook

EmergingHorizon: 5–10 years

Very low production and a genuinely distinct 4WD 'what-if' proposition give the Evo38 a defensible position alongside the RWD Evo37. Sold-out launch and small volume position both cars as a matched pair in Kimera's early history.
