The homologation hot hatch that won six consecutive World Rally Championships and now anchors the analogue performance market.

Overview

Why this car matters

Born from Lancia's need to homologate a Group A rally car, the Delta Integrale evolved from the 8v turbo through 16v, Evoluzione and the final Evoluzione II 'Edizione Finale'. It won six WRC manufacturers' titles between 1987 and 1992 and is the most successful rally car in the championship's history.

The road cars are intense, compact, four-wheel-drive turbocharged machines with a small but globally distributed enthusiast base. Originality, body integrity and documented Italian service history now drive a firmly two-tier market: Evo II and limited-series cars at one end, well-kept 16v Evo cars at the other.

Six straight WRC titles, irreplaceable analogue character and a closed production run make the Integrale the defining homologation hatch of its era.

Buyer's Guide

What to look for

Provenance and originality

Start with identity, paperwork and originality. For the Lancia Delta Integrale, the strongest cars have a continuous ownership file, matching numbers, original books and tools, factory build documentation and evidence of work by manufacturer-approved specialists. Original Italian-market 'Lancia' VIN, documented service history, factory paint, original interior trim and complete books and tools.

Mechanical inspection priorities

The 2.0-litre 16v turbo is durable when serviced, but cambelt history, turbo condition, head-gasket sealing and electrical earthing points are decisive. A proper pre-purchase inspection includes cold-start behaviour, ECU diagnostics and fault-code history, leak-down or compression testing where appropriate, underbody photography, suspension and chassis inspection, brake condition and a long enough road test to expose heat-related faults. Deferred maintenance on a car of this class is almost always more expensive than buying a better-sorted example.

Body, paint, carbon and accident history

Use a paint-depth gauge, lift access and a specialist familiar with the model's factory panel gaps, carbon weave alignment and finish standards. Collector value is dramatically affected by structural repairs, refinished carbon, poor paintwork, replaced panels and missing factory trim or option content. Documented cosmetic refresh is acceptable; concealed accident or fire damage must be priced severely.

Specification strategy

Evoluzione II in named limited series (Giallo Ferrari, Bianco Perlato, Edizione Finale, Dealers Collection) leads. Standard Evo and 16v cars reward originality. Specification, colour, options, factory programme inclusion (where applicable) and limited-build variants move values significantly. Buy the best-documented example in the most desirable specification you can justify rather than a tired example of a rarer derivative that will need years of corrective work.

Living with it

Typical mileage
1,000–3,500 miles typical for collector use
Service interval
12 months; mileage interval varies by model and use
Annual running cost
$4,000 – $12,000
Fuel economy
15–28 mpg depending on use
Insurance
Use an agreed-value collector or specialist supercar policy with limited mileage, secure storage, documented photography and an annual value review. Premiums vary sharply by age, storage location, declared value and driver profile.

Maintenance planning

Budget annually even if the car is used sparingly. Fluids age, tyres and date-coded rubber components must be replaced regardless of mileage, batteries on hybrid hypercars require specific service procedures, and stored cars need exercise. A documented maintenance rhythm protects both reliability and resale value.

Parts and specialist access

Lancia Integrale specialists in Italy and the UK are essential; non-specialist shops routinely miss bodywork, electrical and trim-correctness issues. Before purchase, confirm parts availability for model-specific bodywork, electronics, gearbox, battery (where applicable) and engine components. A discounted car waiting on unobtainable parts or a factory service slot is rarely a saving in collector ownership.

The Integrale market has firmed at the top and softened at the bottom. Limited-series Evoluzione II cars have decoupled from the rest of the range and trade as their own collector tier; project cars are increasingly hard to justify against the cost of correct bodywork.

Long-term outlook

Strong HoldHorizon: 5–10 years

Limited-series Evo II cars are blue-chip and should continue to lead. Standard Evo and 16v cars remain dependent on originality and documented history; mediocre cars will lag.
