Overview

Why this car matters

Announced by Bentley on 21 August 2022 at Monterey Car Week, the Mulliner Batur is the second car of Bentley's modern coachbuilt Mulliner series (following the 2020 Bacalar) and the first to run the final-form, hand-built development of Bentley's 6.0-litre twin-turbocharged W12. The coupé is rated at 740 PS (730 bhp) and ~999 Nm (737 lb-ft) (source: Bentley Motors press release, 21 August 2022, 'Batur by Mulliner: A new design language for the future of Bentley', bentleymotors.com / press.bentleymotors.com); it is the fastest-accelerating Bentley road car to that point, with Bentley's own claim of 0–100 km/h (62 mph) in 3.3 seconds and a top speed of 209 mph. Named after Lake Batur on Bali, the coupé was built at Crewe by Mulliner in a run of 18 customer cars plus a separate Bentley 'Car Zero' engineering prototype (source: Bentley Motors press release, 21 August 2022; Bentley Mulliner completion communications 2024). Bentley revealed the Batur Convertible on 7 May 2024, at Monterey, as a further limited coachbuilt run — Bentley's own release confirms a 16-car customer allocation plus a Car Zero engineering prototype, and the Convertible is rated at 750 PS (740 bhp) and 1,000 Nm (737 lb-ft), making it the most powerful W12 Bentley ever made (source: Bentley Motors press release, 7 May 2024, 'Bentley Mulliner presents the Batur Convertible', bentleymotors.com; corroborated by Autocar, Top Gear and Robb Report). The Convertible programme was announced by Bentley as the final hand-built application of the twin-turbo W12 before the powertrain's retirement at Crewe.

Mechanically the Batur sits on the Continental GT Speed / GT Convertible platform (VW Group MSB), with a bespoke Mulliner body in aluminium and carbon-composite.

Original delivery pricing was reported by Autocar at approximately £1.65 million net of taxes for the coupé at 2022 announcement (source: Autocar, 21 August 2022, 'New Bentley Batur is £1.65m coachbuilt hypercar'). Bentley did not officially disclose the Convertible price; published estimates range from approximately £1.9 million to over £2 million net of taxes (reported by Autocar, 7 May 2024, 'New Bentley Batur Convertible: £1.9m open-top hypercar', framed here as an estimate because Bentley has not confirmed the figure). All allocations for both cars were pre-sold before public reveal.

The Batur is the second reference point of the modern Mulliner coachbuilt era and — critically for its permanent collector standing — the last new coachbuilt Bentley to use the twin-turbocharged 6.0-litre W12. Three factors underwrite its long-term position: (1) production is closed at 18 coupés plus 16 Convertibles (Bentley Motors releases, 21 August 2022 and 7 May 2024), and neither number can be added to; (2) the Batur programme carries the final hand-built development of Crewe's W12 — Bentley's own communications confirm the Convertible as the terminal application of the engine at Mulliner; (3) the Batur established the new Bentley design language subsequently seen on the production range, giving the coachbuilt car a specific design-history significance beyond its rarity. Every car was individually specified by the commissioning owner in collaboration with Mulliner, and every car is unique in paint, hide, veneer and personalisation specification.

Buyer's Guide

What to look for

Provenance and chassis authentication

Every Batur transaction begins and ends with the Bentley Mulliner chassis number, the individual owner-commissioned Mulliner specification document and the Bentley Mulliner-issued build record — all three must be presented and cross-referenced with Bentley Mulliner directly before any acceptance of offer. Only 18 coupés and 16 Convertibles exist and each is documented by Mulliner; any offered car without a complete Mulliner-issued record should be treated as a due-diligence priority and verified against the Bentley Drivers Club modern-Mulliner register.

Delivered condition, mileage and use case

As with the Bacalar before it, every Batur is a low-mileage, event-and-showcase car. Expect any offered example to present essentially as delivered, with mileage in the single to low triple figures. Any Batur with materially higher use requires complete Bentley Mulliner factory service history and a full body condition assessment — particularly of the bespoke exterior panels, which cannot be sourced through the standard Continental GT parts network.

Mechanical inspection priorities — final-form W12 and MSB platform

Mechanically the Batur is a Continental GT Speed underneath, running the hand-built final-form 6.0-litre twin-turbocharged W12 in Batur tune. The engine, eight-speed ZF DCT, all-wheel drive and air suspension are supported by the standing Bentley main-dealer network but PPI, service and repair must be routed through Bentley Mulliner directly. PPI priorities are the modern-W12 set: cold-start behaviour, turbo actuator noise, coolant-hose condition, DCT engagement cold and warm, air-suspension height self-levelling, and unbroken Bentley Mulliner factory service history — every service event verified in the Mulliner record.

Bespoke interior — bespoke hides, veneers and personalisation details

The Batur interior is entirely owner-commissioned in collaboration with Mulliner and typically includes coachbuilt-specific personalisation details (owner monograms, custom hides and veneers, optional 3D-printed precious-metal switch and control details). All refurbishment must be routed through Bentley Mulliner directly and any general Bentley main-dealer interior work will show as a valuation deduction in any onward transaction.

Coupé versus Convertible — buy the car, not the body style

Both body styles are pre-sold, closed-production coachbuilt cars — neither the 18-car coupé nor the 16-car Convertible allocation can be added to. The Convertible carries the explicit Bentley designation as the final hand-built W12 Mulliner application, which is a genuine collector talking point; the coupé carries the 'first Batur' status and the design-language origin. Neither is objectively the collector car — buy the individual chassis, the individual owner-commissioned specification and the individual documentation.

Pricing

What to pay

Exceptional customer car — original commissioning owner, complete Bentley Mulliner factory service record, delivery-condition mileage, notable specification
USD$2,600,000 – $3,800,000+
GBP£2,100,000 – £3,000,000+
EUR€2,400,000 – €3,500,000+
Basis: no primary-source verified public auction hammer exists (see auctions note). Original delivery pricing anchor of approximately £1.65m net for the coupé (Autocar, 21 August 2022). Bentley did not officially disclose the Convertible price; published estimates range from approximately £1.9m to over £2m net (Autocar, 7 May 2024, framed as an estimate). Bands authored independently against the standing brokered-market retail level for delivered Bacalars and against the modern coachbuilt-hypercar comparable set (Pagani, Ferrari Special Series, McLaren Speedtail / Elva). Regional bands NOT FX-converted. Verify against any specific broker or Bentley Mulliner-issued value before transaction.

USD$2,100,000 – $2,700,000
GBP£1,700,000 – £2,200,000
EUR€1,950,000 – €2,500,000
Basis: original delivery-price anchor plus a modest premium reflecting the closed 18-coupé / 16-Convertible allocation and the Convertible's status as the final hand-built W12 Mulliner car. No fetched public auction print supports this tier. Regional bands NOT FX-converted.

Any Batur offered materially below the delivery-price anchor should be treated as a due-diligence priority — every allocation was pre-sold before public reveal and the surviving customer pool is thin; any below-market offer requires direct verification with Bentley Mulliner and with the Bentley Drivers Club modern register before acceptance.

Ownership

Living with it

Typical mileage
100–1,500 miles typical — the Batur is an event / private-collection car used sparingly by design; expect concours attendance and Bentley Mulliner-hosted owner event use rather than open-road touring.
Service interval
Factory-managed Bentley Mulliner service programme — annual / 10,000 mile whichever comes first; all servicing routed through Bentley Mulliner factory technicians rather than a general Bentley main dealer.
Annual running cost
$28,000 – $65,000 (dominated by insurance, secure storage and factory-managed servicing rather than by consumables)
Fuel economy
Not separately published for the Batur; the shared 6.0-litre W12 in Continental GT Speed application returns approximately 19 mpg imperial combined (16 mpg US / 15 L/100 km) — treat as indicative only
Insurance
Agreed-value coverage at seven-figure values via Hagerty Bespoke, Lockton Private Client or a Bentley Mulliner-facilitated arrangement — expect US$30,000–US$55,000 / £22,000–£42,000 annual premium range on a US$2.5–3.5m / £2–2.7m agreed value with mileage limit and secure-storage warranty.

Factory service programme is non-negotiable

All Batur servicing must be routed through Bentley Mulliner directly — the Bentley main-dealer network does not carry Batur-specific factory training, tooling and panel-refurbishment access, and any service event outside the Bentley Mulliner factory programme will show as a gap in the Mulliner service record and will be treated as a valuation deduction in any onward transaction.

Storage, use and display

The Batur is a controlled-exposure car — climate-controlled storage between outings is expected. Concours and Bentley Mulliner-hosted owner events (Villa d'Este, Salon Privé, Concours of Elegance, Pebble Beach, Amelia Island) are the primary use cases; the coupé is a genuine grand-touring car in a way the roofless Bacalar is not, but bespoke interior specifications make sustained road-touring use materially outside the standard ownership pattern.

Common Problems

Known issues by system

Ownership documentation — Bentley Mulliner build record and chassis authentication

Any Batur transaction requires direct verification against Bentley Mulliner's own build record and the Bentley Drivers Club modern-Mulliner register

CriticalNot applicable — documentation gaps are a purchase-decision item, not a repair item.
Symptoms — Any offered Batur without a complete Bentley Mulliner-issued build record, individual owner-commissioned specification document, and unbroken Mulliner-service history should be treated as a due-diligence priority.
Inspection — Direct written confirmation from Bentley Mulliner of the chassis number, original commissioning owner and current build-record status; cross-reference to the Bentley Drivers Club modern register; confirmation of any accident or repair history through Bentley Mulliner's own repair record system.
Bodywork — coachbuilt bespoke panels

Every exterior body panel is unique to the Batur and cannot be sourced from the Continental GT parts network

Major$30,000 – $220,000+ per event, routed through Bentley Mulliner factory refurbishment
Symptoms — Any body damage requires Bentley Mulliner factory refurbishment; a general Bentley main-dealer body shop cannot correctly repair a Batur panel.
Inspection — Full paint-depth-gauge inspection of every exterior panel; verification of any Bentley Mulliner-issued repair record in the file; direct enquiry to Bentley Mulliner regarding any historical body event on the specific chassis.
Interior — bespoke hides, veneers and personalisation details

Coachbuilt interior trim is unique to the commissioning owner's specification, potentially including 3D-printed precious-metal details

Moderate$20,000 – $150,000+ per event, routed through Bentley Mulliner
Symptoms — Any UV, weather or contact damage to the hides, veneers or personalisation details; any evidence of general Bentley main-dealer refurbishment work outside the Mulliner programme.
Inspection — Full visual inspection of every interior surface; verification of any Bentley Mulliner interior refurbishment record; confirmation of storage arrangements over the ownership history.
Powertrain — final-form 6.0-litre twin-turbo W12 and 8-speed DCT

Hand-built final-form W12 in Batur tune; the Batur Convertible is the final hand-built application of the engine at Mulliner

Moderate$5,000 – $22,000 per major service event routed through Bentley Mulliner
Symptoms — The standard modern W12 set of items — turbo actuator behaviour cold, coolant-hose and intercooler condition, DCT engagement quality cold and warm, air-suspension self-levelling.
Inspection — Bentley Mulliner-hosted PPI including diagnostic scan, full road-test, air-suspension height check and DCT engagement verification cold and warm; verification of complete Bentley Mulliner service history.
Wheels, tyres and brakes — Batur-specific fitment

22-inch bespoke Batur forged wheels and bespoke Pirelli P Zero fitment; carbon-ceramic brakes shared with Continental GT Speed

Minor$6,000 – $32,000 (tyres and carbon-ceramic disc replacement routed through Bentley Mulliner)
Symptoms — Wheel kerbing, tyre age (Pirelli P Zero fitments age materially even at low mileage), carbon-ceramic disc wear on any car with more than delivery-mileage use.
Inspection — Full wheel condition inspection; tyre date-code check on all four corners; carbon-ceramic disc wear inspection.

The Batur market, as of the review date, is thin, private and above the online-auction cut-off — all 18 coupé and 16 Convertible allocations were pre-sold before public reveal, and no Batur has traded on any public online or catalogue auction to the point at which this guide is authored (a direct search of Bring a Trailer on 5 July 2026 returns zero Batur results, and no primary-source verified RM Sotheby's or Broad Arrow catalogue print has been fetched). Transactions occur through Bentley Mulliner directly and through the modern-Bentley collector-broker trade. The permanent collector case rests on three anchored facts, each cited from a primary Bentley source: (1) closed 18-car coupé production per the Bentley Motors press release of 21 August 2022; (2) closed 16-car Convertible production per the Bentley Motors press release of 7 May 2024; (3) the Convertible as the final hand-built W12 Mulliner application, per Bentley's own 7 May 2024 communications. Onward pricing at the £1.7–2.7m / US$2.1–3.4m level is authored independently against original delivery pricing (Autocar, £1.65m coupé; estimated £1.9m Convertible because Bentley did not officially disclose the figure) and against the standing modern coachbuilt-hypercar comparable set.

As of the review date, a direct search of Bring a Trailer (bringatrailer.com/search/?s=bentley+batur, fetched 5 July 2026) returns zero Batur results, and a search of the RM Sotheby's public results archive returns no Batur consignment. No primary-source public catalogue-auction print for a Bentley Mulliner Batur has been fetched and confirmed for this guide. The Batur market is transacted privately through Bentley Mulliner directly and through the modern-Bentley collector-broker trade (P&A Wood, Simon Furlonger, Tom Hartley Jnr, RM Sotheby's Private Sales, Broad Arrow Private Sales); any recent hammer figure quoted second-hand in the enthusiast press without a primary-source auction-house page is deliberately excluded from this guide.

Investment

Long-term outlook

Blue ChipHorizon: 10+ years

The Batur is a blue-chip modern coachbuilt Bentley whose collector standing is structurally underwritten by three factors: (1) production is closed at 18 coupés plus 16 Convertibles (Bentley Motors releases, 21 August 2022 and 7 May 2024) and neither number can be added to; (2) the Batur is the second reference point of the modern Mulliner coachbuilt era and the origin car of Bentley's current design language; (3) the Batur Convertible is Bentley's own-designated final hand-built application of the twin-turbocharged W12 at Mulliner — a specific, closed chapter of Crewe's twelve-cylinder history. Best long-term holds in current buying: any Batur (coupé or Convertible) with an original commissioning owner history, complete Bentley Mulliner factory service record and delivery-condition mileage; the specific paint / trim / veneer specification will drive the ordering of prices within the surviving pool but every genuine Batur transaction is a defensible long-hold position at the £1.7–2.7m / US$2.1–3.4m level indicated by original delivery pricing and the standing brokered market.
