The 'Rambo Lambo' — Lamborghini's wild first attempt at a luxury off-roader, and a vehicle years ahead of the super-SUV boom it helped to inspire. It grew out of the abandoned Cheetah and LM001 military prototypes, but where those used rear-mounted American engines, the production LM002 dropped the Countach's 5.2-litre quad-cam V12 up front, driving all four wheels through a ZF five-speed gearbox and dual-range transfer case.
Rated at around 444 hp and riding on bespoke Pirelli Scorpion tyres, it married genuine desert capability to a leather-lined cabin. Just 301 were built at Sant'Agata between 1986 and 1993, of which 48 were the US-market 'LM/American'.
