Aston Martin Vanquish Zagato

A four-body Zagato coachbuilt family — Coupé, Volante, Speedster and Shooting Brake — built on the last naturally-aspirated V12 Vanquish.

Overview

Why this car matters

The Vanquish Zagato is a four-body coachbuilt Aston Martin developed with Zagato, whose partnership with Aston Martin began with the DB4 GT Zagato. All four bodies — Coupé, Volante, Speedster and Shooting Brake — are built on the Vanquish S and share its 600 PS naturally-aspirated V12 and Touchtronic III transmission. Every body panel is carbon fibre.

Coupé production commenced late 2016. The Speedster and Shooting Brake were announced at Monterey in August 2017, with the Shooting Brake entering production in 2018. All four bodies sold out before deliveries began. Common design cues include Vulcan-inspired 'Blade' tail lights and 3D Zagato 'Z' motifs set into the grille and rear vent meshes. The Speedster carries twin 'Speed Humps' echoing Zagato's traditional double-bubble roofline, plus pop-up roll hoops. The Shooting Brake is a strict two-seater with a double-bubble roof and glass inlays.

The Vanquish Zagato family is the modern-era peak of Aston Martin's longest-standing coachbuilding relationship and is built on the last naturally-aspirated V12 Vanquish. Across four bodies — Coupé, Volante, Speedster and Shooting Brake — every car sold out before delivery. The Speedster is the rarest of the four bodies and the family sits alongside the One-77 and V12 Zagato as the modern-era Zagato-derived Aston halo cars.

Based on the Vanquish S: 5,935cc naturally-aspirated V12 producing 600 PS (Aston Martin pressroom figure). Touchtronic III transmission. Coupé production commenced late 2016 and the run sold out before delivery. DO NOT PRINT 580 hp — secondary sources give it; Aston's own release states 600 PS. VERIFY: displacement — 5,935cc is commonly given as both '5.9L' and '6.0L'; same rounding trap as the DBS V12.
Vanquish Zagato Volante20179999 units, open-top version of the Coupé on the same Vanquish S underpinnings and 600 PS V12.

Only 11 Shooting Brakes were delivered to the United States (Verify — single source).
Buyer's Guide

What to look for

Provenance — factory paperwork and service history

Current-era Aston Martins live and die on continuous factory service history and dealer-network paperwork. For the Vanquish Zagato specifically, the four bodies are individually numbered and were each delivered with body-specific Zagato paperwork. Confirm the exact body, allocation number and delivery specification against Aston Martin's records — and note that the Speedster is the rarest of the four. Confirm chassis number, delivery specification, options and full service book against the authorised dealer portal before pricing.

Drivetrain — V12 or AMG twin-turbo V8

The hand-built 5.2 twin-turbo V12 and the Mercedes-AMG M177 4.0 twin-turbo V8 are both robust when correctly maintained but must be serviced at an authorised dealer for warranty and value continuity. Cold-start behaviour, boost signature and any recall or campaign history are the primary purchase-time diagnostics.

Chassis and body — bonded aluminium and carbon-ceramic brakes

Bonded-aluminium chassis require authorised body-shop repair; non-factory bonded-aluminium work is priced against that history. Carbon-ceramic brake systems are a factory-only replacement item — verify pad and disc condition alongside the service book.

Options, specification and condition

Specification drives value in the modern-Aston market. Carbon-ceramic brakes, lightweight packages, popular colour and trim combinations, and factory-fitted rare options are the material spec-side signals; confirm every claim against the original delivery documents.

Factory / authorised-dealer servicing

Modern Aston Martin drivetrains — the hand-built V12 and the Mercedes-AMG M177 twin-turbo V8 — should be serviced through the authorised dealer network. Continuous factory service history is a material value driver.

Carbon-ceramic brakes and electronics

Carbon-ceramic brake systems on current Astons are a factory-only replacement item. Verify infotainment revisions, software updates and any recall or campaign history at the dealer service portal before purchase.

Valuation

Current value bands by region

Values sit well below original list. A Shooting Brake listed at $877,916 new changed hands at $468,000 in 2024 and $440,000 in early 2025 — lower on the second sale than on the first. Cars offered above that level have repeatedly failed to find buyers: a coupé went unsold against a $600,000 – $650,000 estimate in January 2024, and another against £400,000 – £550,000. The highest recorded result for the model remains $665,000, set in August 2021. Treat asking prices near original list as untested.

Long-term outlook

StableHorizon: 10+ years

A four-body coachbuilt family from Aston Martin's longest-running design partnership, built on the last naturally aspirated V12 Vanquish and sold out before deliveries began. The Speedster is the rarest of the four bodies. These have not yet established themselves as collector cars in the way their rarity and original pricing implied; delivery-mileage cars in original specification remain the natural focus.

Our view, not advice. This section is Car Collector International's editorial judgement on where this model sits in the collector market, based on the production, specification and market data set out in this guide. It is not a recommendation to buy or sell and it is not investment advice. Values can fall as well as rise.
