Overview

Why this car matters

Launched in 2006 as the successor to the 575M Maranello, the 599 GTB Fiorano paired a 6.0-litre Enzo-derived V12 producing 612 hp with a six-speed F1 transmission. A small number of cars were built with the optional six-speed gated manual gearbox — fewer than 30 globally, by widely-reported estimates — and have become the focal point of 599 collecting.

Later derivatives included the focused 599 GTO (599 units) and the open 599 SA Aperta (80 units).

Bridges the analogue 550/575 era and the modern dual-clutch F12; manual-gearbox 599s are among the rarest modern Ferraris.

Buyer's Guide

What to look for

Provenance and originality

Start with identity, paperwork and originality. For the Ferrari 599 GTB Fiorano, the strongest cars have continuous ownership history, matching numbers where applicable, original books and tools, factory build documentation and evidence of work by manufacturer-approved specialists. Manual gearbox, Handling GTE option (where present), original colour and unmodified specification.

Mechanical inspection priorities

The Enzo-derived V12 is robust; F1 transmission TCU health, hydraulic accumulator condition and clutch wear are the practical concerns. A proper pre-purchase inspection includes cold-start behaviour, ECU diagnostics and fault-code history (where applicable), leak-down or compression testing, underbody photography, suspension and chassis inspection, brake condition and a long enough road test to expose heat-related faults. Deferred maintenance on a car of this class is almost always more expensive than buying a better-sorted example.

Body, paint and accident history

Use a paint-depth gauge, lift access and a specialist familiar with the model's factory panel gaps and finish standards. Collector value is dramatically affected by structural repairs, refinished panels, poor paintwork and missing factory trim or option content. Documented cosmetic refresh is acceptable; concealed accident or fire damage must be priced severely.

Specification strategy

Manual-gearbox 599 GTB cars lead. GTO and SA Aperta are blue-chip limited-series. Standard F1 cars are honest entry-level V12 collectables. Specification, colour, options and limited-build variants move values significantly. Buy the best-documented example in the most desirable specification you can justify, rather than a tired example of a rarer derivative that will need years of corrective work.

Living with it

Typical mileage
1,000–4,000 miles typical for collector use
Service interval
12 months; mileage interval varies by model and use
Annual running cost
$3,500 – $10,000
Fuel economy
15–28 mpg depending on use
Insurance
Use an agreed-value collector or specialist supercar policy with limited mileage, secure storage, documented photography and an annual value review. Premiums vary sharply by age, storage location, declared value and driver profile.

Maintenance planning

Budget annually even if the car is used sparingly. Fluids age, tyres and date-coded rubber components must be replaced regardless of mileage, and stored cars need exercise. A documented maintenance rhythm protects both reliability and resale value.

Parts and specialist access

Ferrari main dealers and senior independents support this generation comprehensively. Before purchase, confirm parts availability for model-specific bodywork, electronics, gearbox and engine components. A discounted car waiting on unobtainable parts or a factory service slot is rarely a saving in collector ownership.

599 values have begun a measured upward move as the model joins the established collector V12 set. Manual cars are essentially uncatchable; 599 GTO and SA Aperta remain blue-chip.

Long-term outlook

Strong HoldHorizon: 5–10 years

Closed-production manual cars and the GTO/SA Aperta will lead; standard F1 cars are entry-level V12 collectables and should track the wider Ferrari V12 grand tourer market.
