Ferrari 599 GTO

Road-legal development of the 599XX programme — Ferrari's fastest road car at launch.

Overview

Why this car matters

Announced on 8 April 2010, the 599 GTO was the road-legal development of the 599XX track programme and became Ferrari's fastest road car at launch, lapping Fiorano in 1:24 — one second inside the Enzo. It reused the 599XX shift logic and exhaust and carried second-generation carbon-ceramic brakes and aerodynamic wheel 'doughnuts' developed on the track car.

The GTO badge, sparingly used across Ferrari's history, positioned the car as the halo of the 599 range and the direct predecessor to the F12tdf as Ferrari's front-engined limited-series V12.

A road-legal distillation of the 599XX programme, and the reason the 599 line stands with the Ferrari 250 GTO and 288 GTO as one of only three cars to carry the GTO designation. Its lap time set the mark that the F12tdf and 812 Competizione would later be measured against.

Buyer's Guide

What to look for

Provenance and Ferrari Classiche

Provenance is paramount on limited-series Ferraris. For the 599 GTO specifically, confirm originality of GTO-specific carbon aero, wheel 'doughnuts', 599XX-derived exhaust, second-generation carbon-ceramic discs and F1 single-clutch actuator/clutch condition. Confirm Ferrari Classiche certification, chassis and engine identity, option-list documentation and continuous ownership record before any commercial discussion.

F1 gearbox / DCT and clutch health

The single-clutch F1 unit on the 599 GTO and SA Aperta and the F1 DCT on the F12tdf are dealer-diagnosed systems. Confirm clutch wear percentage, TCU fault history and — on F1 cars — hydraulic accumulator condition against a current authorised Ferrari diagnostic report.

Carbon-ceramic brakes and specific hardware

Second-generation carbon-ceramic discs (599 GTO/SA Aperta) and the Extreme Design one-piece calipers (F12tdf) are model-specific items with model-specific replacement costs. Inspect disc condition, pad wear and any thermal fatigue at the pad interface, and confirm parts availability with the dealer before purchase.

Body, aero and originality

Limited-series Ferrari bodies carry model-specific carbon and aluminium panels; the SA Aperta additionally carries carbon-fibre C-pillars, aluminium bootlid, an emergency-use manual soft top and unique five-spoke wheels. Verify every model-specific part against the delivery documentation and reject a car whose aero and body hardware cannot be documented as original.

Ferrari Classiche certification

At this rarity Ferrari Classiche certification is the central reference for provenance. Confirm the Classiche file, chassis and engine identity and any option-list documentation against the delivery paperwork before pricing.

Authorised Ferrari service history

Continuous authorised Ferrari dealer service history is a material value driver. F1/DCT gearbox diagnostics, carbon-ceramic brake condition and any ECU/software campaigns belong with the dealer network and should be documented in full.

Known issues by system

Transmission (F1)

Single-clutch actuator and clutch wear

Major$3,000 – $8,000 (clutch); $3,500 – $6,000 (accumulator)
Symptoms — Slow shifts, judder from standstill, F1-system warning.
Inspection — Authorised Ferrari diagnostic showing clutch wear %, TCU fault history and hydraulic accumulator condition.
Brakes

Second-generation carbon-ceramic disc condition

Major$18,000 – $35,000 (full set)
Symptoms — Vibration under braking; visible pad-interface fatigue on the discs.
Inspection — Dealer disc thickness and thermal-fatigue inspection; confirm parts availability.
Bodywork / aero

GTO-specific carbon aero and wheel 'doughnut' originality

ModerateChassis-by-chassis
Symptoms — Non-original or repaired aero parts, missing wheel 'doughnuts'.
Inspection — Compare to delivery documents and factory reference imagery; verify part numbers.

Long-term outlook

Blue ChipHorizon: 10+ years

Halo of the 599 line and one of only three cars to carry the GTO designation. Ferrari Classiche certification, unmodified aero and continuous authorised service history separate the strongest cars; a defined production run and a track-derived recipe underpin long-term collectability.
