Ferrari 599 SA Aperta

Overview

Why this car matters

Unveiled at the 2010 Paris Motor Show, the 599 SA Aperta was the open version of the 599, produced in a run of 80 cars to mark Pininfarina's 80th anniversary and to honour Sergio and Andrea Pininfarina — the initials of whom give the model its name.

Mechanically it shares the 599 GTO's engine and gearbox, with chassis revisions to answer the open bodyshell; virtually no two cars were built to the same specification.

Combines the 599 GTO powertrain with an open Pininfarina body in a defined 80-car run at the anniversary of one of the marque's defining coachbuilder relationships. Provenance and specification uniqueness make each car a subject in its own right.

Buyer's Guide

What to look for

Provenance and Ferrari Classiche

Provenance is paramount on limited-series Ferraris. For the 599 SA Aperta specifically, provenance and Ferrari Classiche certification are paramount at 80 cars; confirm the soft-top and its stowage kit are complete, and treat every specification detail as unique to the individual car. Confirm Ferrari Classiche certification, chassis and engine identity, option-list documentation and continuous ownership record before any commercial discussion.

F1 gearbox / DCT and clutch health

The single-clutch F1 unit on the 599 GTO and SA Aperta and the F1 DCT on the F12tdf are dealer-diagnosed systems. Confirm clutch wear percentage, TCU fault history and — on F1 cars — hydraulic accumulator condition against a current authorised Ferrari diagnostic report.

Carbon-ceramic brakes and specific hardware

Second-generation carbon-ceramic discs (599 GTO/SA Aperta) and the Extreme Design one-piece calipers (F12tdf) are model-specific items with model-specific replacement costs. Inspect disc condition, pad wear and any thermal fatigue at the pad interface, and confirm parts availability with the dealer before purchase.

Body, aero and originality

Limited-series Ferrari bodies carry model-specific carbon and aluminium panels; the SA Aperta additionally carries carbon-fibre C-pillars, aluminium bootlid, an emergency-use manual soft top and unique five-spoke wheels. Verify every model-specific part against the delivery documentation and reject a car whose aero and body hardware cannot be documented as original.

Ferrari Classiche certification

At this rarity Ferrari Classiche certification is the central reference for provenance. Confirm the Classiche file, chassis and engine identity and any option-list documentation against the delivery paperwork before pricing.

Authorised Ferrari service history

Continuous authorised Ferrari dealer service history is a material value driver. F1/DCT gearbox diagnostics, carbon-ceramic brake condition and any ECU/software campaigns belong with the dealer network and should be documented in full.
