Overview

Why this car matters

Revealed in June 2023, the SF90 XX Stradale is the most extreme road-legal evolution of Ferrari's mid-engined plug-in hybrid platform and the first car to wear the 'XX' badge — previously reserved for the closed-track FXX and 599XX programmes — that you can register and drive on the road. The 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 produces 786 bhp on its own, with three electric motors lifting combined output to 1,016 bhp through an 8-speed dual-clutch transaxle. Maranello quotes 0–62 mph in 2.3 seconds and a 199 mph top speed.

The XX changes are not cosmetic. The fixed rear wing, redesigned floor and revised cooling produce 530 kg of downforce at 250 km/h; the Manettino has been deleted in favour of pre-set 'race' programmes; and a new short-shift strategy and 'Extra Boost' mode redistribute hybrid energy under acceleration. Production was capped at 799 coupes and 599 Spiders, all of which sold to existing Ferrari clients before public launch.

First XX-series Ferrari for the road; combines hybrid hypercar performance with track-developed aero — a clear collector signifier in the modern Ferrari hierarchy.

Buyer's Guide

What to look for

Provenance and originality

Start with identity, paperwork and originality. For the Ferrari SF90 XX Stradale, the strongest cars have continuous ownership history, matching numbers where applicable, original books and tools, factory build documentation and evidence of work by manufacturer-approved specialists. Allocation chain (original Ferrari client), Tailor-Made spec, and unbroken main-dealer history are the value anchors. Flippers and overseas imports trade at meaningful discounts.

Mechanical inspection priorities

Service exactly to Ferrari Genuine Maintenance; battery-pack health, hybrid coolant integrity and software revisions are the key inspection items. A proper pre-purchase inspection includes cold-start behaviour, ECU diagnostics and fault-code history (where applicable), leak-down or compression testing, underbody photography, suspension and chassis inspection, brake condition and a long enough road test to expose heat-related faults. Deferred maintenance on a car of this class is almost always more expensive than buying a better-sorted example.

Body, paint and accident history

Use a paint-depth gauge, lift access and a specialist familiar with the model's factory panel gaps and finish standards. Collector value is dramatically affected by structural repairs, refinished panels, poor paintwork and missing factory trim or option content. Documented cosmetic refresh is acceptable; concealed accident or fire damage must be priced severely.

Specification strategy

Tailor-Made colours, fixed-wing photography for marketing approvals, and full Ferrari Genuine Maintenance from new define the strongest cars. Specification, colour, options and limited-build variants move values significantly. Buy the best-documented example in the most desirable specification you can justify, rather than a tired example of a rarer derivative that will need years of corrective work.

Annual running cost
$15,000 – $60,000+
Fuel economy

Insurance
Use an agreed-value collector or specialist supercar policy with limited mileage, secure storage, documented photography and an annual value review. Premiums vary sharply by age, storage location, declared value and driver profile.

Maintenance planning

Budget annually even if the car is used sparingly. Fluids age, tyres and date-coded rubber components must be replaced regardless of mileage, and stored cars need exercise. A documented maintenance rhythm protects both reliability and resale value.

Parts and specialist access

This is a Ferrari Classiche / main-dealer car for the foreseeable future; independents lack the diagnostic access for the hybrid system. Before purchase, confirm parts availability for model-specific bodywork, electronics, gearbox and engine components. A discounted car waiting on unobtainable parts or a factory service slot is rarely a saving in collector ownership.

Allocation cars trade at strong premiums to list; speculative flips have softened in 2025 as supply normalises. Spiders firm at a 10–20% premium over coupes.

Long-term outlook

Strong HoldHorizon: 5–10 years

First XX-road car, capped production, hybrid-era halo. Original-allocation cars with Tailor-Made spec should outperform standard SF90s.
